artist statement
Many of my current works are created in layers. These layers can represent anything and everything, but more often then not, they some how symbolize a change/growth in my life. My emotions play a huge role in my work and I allow them to take over my hand and let them do the talking. My work deals with many of my emotions and life’s challenges; how I have felt alone, isolated, happy, sad, confused, enraged, being raped and having to deal with that alone at one point, having Fibromyalgia and constantly battling pain, etc. Some paintings act as a symbol of how I used to be and who I am today. They are about becoming at peace with my past and accepting it as a part of me. I use layers to show my personal journey and I try to show the acceptance of my past by carving away at the layers on top. This allows the previous layers to show through which symbolizes a sense of time—a journey of the past to the present and perhaps even the future.
